When the Sun Shines -A Poem For Denise





Voids filled with darkness
Stranded on the pit of despair
Watching the crowd float by
Wondering when, if, can I find solace.

Searching for something, lost in the darkness
Needing something not sure what has been lost
Seeking something within the moment of nothing
Wanting something not sure of what.

In the moment, just before i would give up
Out of nowhere, without warning
the clouds cleared, the sky became blue
and into my nothingness the sun did shine.

Bright hopes of wonder, sweet dreams of bliss
Smiles beyond measure, conversations fill the voids
Kindred spirits entwine, souls discovering their twin
Passions unfold, joy meets joy -when the Sun Shines.

  THE HISTORY OF THE CINCINNATI ALUMNI CHAPTER - A GEM IN THE QUEEN CITY    The Cincinnati Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi was chartered approximately twelve years after Kappa Alpha Psi was incorporated as a National Greek Letter College Fraternity.  The Brothers who facilitated this were: Geo F. David,  L.R. Breedlove, Ray Clark, Ned Dunham, H.L.   The Great Migration and the Birth of the Ghetto   As early as the 1900s, Blacks responded with the greatest mass exodus our country has ever seen, called the Great Migration.  But rather than a new day, they were greeted with new forms of racial violence.  What guns and violence could not do, then redlining and white flight did.  In the process, newly created racialized zones came into being.  These zones, characterized as ghettos, where the over-policing, underfunded schools, and limited social mobility served to create the cradle-to-prison pipeline, extreme levels of poverty, and isolation.  These truths account for the increasingly frustrated, violent, and hopelessness frequently witnessed in these racialized zones.    My Grandfather was part of the Great Migration.  Born in rural Mississippi, he had been a sharecropper working on the same land that his grandfather had been a slave.  Even with 5 sons and 2 daughters and a wife laboring in the fields, he was barely able to sc
