The First Always Sets the stage.

 




And so, we have just finished our first month.  The first of anything -the first day of the week, the first encounter, the first month or the first year -all sets the stage for what to expect.  If they go off the rails, its difficult to get the train back on track.  But if it goes smoothly, then the pattern has been set and all you need to do is to keep on doing what you have been doing.


 We have completed our first month...wow. This time has flown.  As I look over the text, recall the messages, and think of our multiple conversations' a few things stand out.


1) We have never finished a conversation

2) We always have something to say. We always communicate on multiple levels on multiple sets of issues and almost always are in agreement.

3) I am constantly amazed at your intelligence, your wisdom, and your authenticity.

4) The reality is that we enjoy the conversations

5) This month has been about being real, speaking our truths, and becoming spiritually connected.

6) It has been about learning some difficult, intimate details of each of our past

7) It has been about God, spirituality, reality, and trust

These 7 principals set the stage for the future.  As long as we continue to pursue them, we will continue to see this -relationship evolve.  As long we put God first, be honest, and authentic then our spiritual connection will grow.  As long as we honor each other's spaces, respect the boundaries, and are deliberate about being real then we will experience new depths as we soar to new heights.  And as long as its about being free then we will experience all the possibilities that are in front of us.  


Thanks for this first month.  I am eager to see what the next stage will look like.  But nothing will ever beat this first - dream that has become a reality.

A Vietnam veteran comes home

I grew up listening to the blues of Bessie Smith, Billie Holliday, BBKing, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, and Ma Rainey. Some unfamiliar with the black experience and blues might look and listen to these songs and see pain and suffering, or a constant complaint. BUt those from within the black experience see -not a complaint but a critique, not pain but endurance, and not suffering but deliverance. As BBKing once remarked -Blues is like a liniment, good for whatever ails you. So, in recognition of this deeper meaning of the blues, I offer this Veterans day some Blues for the Veteran, particularly those form Vietnam.
