Keeping it real

 

 


nope, i am not crazy

money does not rule my world

age is but time played to the rhyme

of necessity that struggles to remain

relevant amidst the construct of insanity.


nope, i am not crazy

i am comfortable in my joy

of being, satisfied in my understanding

of the universe, empowered by my faith

in a One that makes me a one.


nope, i am not crazy

even though i continue to strive

to see the hope that love promises

as this day turns into this tomorrow as

I watch another sunset as i persist in 

Keeping it real..

  When God created woman, he was working late on the 6th day. An angel came by and asked, “Why spend so much time on her?" The Lord answered, “Have you seen all the specifications I have to meet to shape her? She must function in all kinds of situations. She must be able to embrace several kids at the same time. Have a hug that can heal anything from a bruised knee to a broken heart. She must do all this with only two hands. A Vietnam veteran comes home

I grew up listening to the blues of Bessie Smith, Billie Holliday, BBKing, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, and Ma Rainey. Some unfamiliar with the black experience and blues might look and listen to these songs and see pain and suffering, or a constant complaint. BUt those from within the black experience see -not a complaint but a critique, not pain but endurance, and not suffering but deliverance. As BBKing once remarked -Blues is like a liniment, good for whatever ails you. So, in recognition of this deeper meaning of the blues, I offer this Veterans day some Blues for the Veteran, particularly those form Vietnam. As a black Vietnam Veteran, entering the military in 1968 in the midst of the student protests, the overwhelming death toll of the black veteran, and the continual frustration with a war that was never declared, and one that we should never have entered.
