Some work the fields while others work their spirit -it's all good
From
Luke 10:38-42 we read:
38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him.
39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said.
40 But
Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to
him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do
the work by myself? Tell her to help me!"
41 "Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things,
42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better,
and it will not be taken away from her."
So often,
some complain that they are doing all the work, while others seemingly sit back
and do nothing. Maybe the situation is different, and perhaps they are doing
what they need to do at that time. Maybe each of us has a time to serve and a
time to listen, a time to be involved in the preparation, and a time to be
attentive to the moment. Maybe we each have a time when we need to sit or to
operate in our giftings and callings. Perhaps we are not all called or need to
do the same thing, and we can chew gum, walk and even talk differently. We are
not automatons but thinking, living, breathing individuals called to function in
the ways that seem best to us. And while we are committed to the common good,
we are still individuals. So if indeed we are brothers, let us trust each
brother to do what they feel is good. And yes, there are seasons of rest and
recovery, contemplation and stillness. Alternatively, there are times when we
might be filled with purpose, determination, and vision. Operating in one's
purpose is also appropriate. But in all things, let us remember that we are
called, we make choices, and they are all good. So for the Marthas or Benjamins
in the crowd, please continue in your service, purpose, and calling, but please
do not complain as Mary / Robert follow their heart, spirit, and this moment.
